Les Houches

Beautiful Les Houches, set amongst the magnificent Mont Blanc Massif and home to the world famous "Kandahar" Coupe de Monde downhill run, offers a myriad of activities throughout the year to suit the most demanding tastes.

During the glorious summer months choose from climbing, trekking, mountain biking, paragliding, tennis and canyoning or simply stroll around the Lac de Chavants, take a picnic and marvel at the stunning scenery.

Naturally when winter arrives your choices change. In addition to the extensive skiing and boarding on or off piste for all levels on your doorstep, there's heli-skiing and ice climbing to name but two of the challenges available.

The village of Les Houches is quieter than nearby Chamonix but has its own unique character, typical of a rural French village. There is an old core with a pretty church and weekly market in the village square. Other amenities include restaurants, local bars, two boulangeries and two well stocked supermarket, one of which is just opposite the apartment. The helpful tourist office is located on the village square opposite the church along with the Bank and Post Office. There are many outdoor equipment shops near to the Bellevue lift station where you can hire or buy equipment and clothing.

Les Houches is also the start/finish of the popular Tour du Mont Blanc, A 7-10 day hiking loop of 250km around the base of the Mont-Blanc Massif which takes in France, Italy and Switzerland. This summer classic tour is for everybody that hikes, accustomed to walking in various trails and use to carry a heavy backpack!
